Add your website to Google Search Console

Verify your Arcadina website in Google Search Console in 6 steps using the HTML tag method.

What is Search Console?

Google Search Console is a free Google service that helps you understand and improve, among other things:

  • The searches people use to find your website.

  • Possible errors on your website (for example, broken links).

You don’t have to register your website in Search Console for it to appear in Google results. But if you do, you’ll know in more detail how Google sees your website and you can improve its performance in search results.

Why use Google Search Console?

  • You’ll know how Google indexes the pages of your website and how it shows them in searches.

  • You’ll get information about your ranking, the keywords visitors use to find you and the links pointing to your website.

  • Google will warn you about crawl errors and other indexing problems on your pages.

  • You can tell Google your sitemap: the pages you want to be visible, the ones you don’t want indexed, or the backlinks (external links to your website) you want to disavow.

Verify your Arcadina website in Google Search Console in 6 steps

Google offers several ways to verify your website’s domain. At Arcadina we recommend adding an HTML tag: a snippet of code that goes in the <head> tag of your website’s home page.

Note: the Google Search Console screenshots in this article are in Spanish; you’ll see them in your own language.

Step 1: open Google Search Console

Go to Google Search Console with your Google account and click Start now.

Step 2: choose the property type

Google will ask you to choose the property type: Domain or URL prefix.

Step 3: choose the verification method

From the options shown, choose HTML tag.

Step 4: copy the HTML tag code

When you open the HTML tag option you’ll see the tag code (it starts with <meta name="google-site-verification"...). Click Copy.

Step 5: paste the code into your website

Go to your website’s control panel, in:

Control panel / sidebar / Settings / Advanced.

Paste the code you copied in step 4 into the Fixed header code box and click Save at the top left.

Step 6: verify ownership of your website

Go back to the Google Search Console page where you left off (step 4) and click Verify. Done: your website has been added to Google Search Console.

Summary

  1. Open Google Search Console.

  2. Choose the property type (URL prefix).

  3. Choose the verification method (HTML tag).

  4. Copy the HTML tag code.
